Updated: Mar 11, 2020

About This Game Katana X is a sword simulation action game designed specifically for VR utilizing tracked motion controls. It's a highly accessible game that is easy to get into and strangely addicting once you start. This game takes real physical skill of body control and hand–eye coordination to get high scores. If you like motion gaming, swordplay, and having a serious workout session, this is the game for you.Katana X was initially inspired by the famous mobile fruit slicing game, but we wanted to make a game that you can actually feel like you are wielding a sword and correctly physically interacting in the virtual world. Slice with the sharp edge of your sword, try for combo opportunities, and avoid hitting bombs to achieve the high score! With practice and the right technique, you might be surprised how high a score you can achieve. Who will be the next Katana Master?Features Physics based, realistic cutting simulation - cut precisely, how you want, and where you want New fruit cutting training modes, to get familiar with the basics of the game Multiple fruit modes with a completely reworked spawning system Multiple new tatami mat cutting challenges 2 unique scenes with day and night settings Customize your swords with six changeable blades (katana or ninjatō variants) and three handles (shirasaya, cane, classic katana fitting) Compete against your friends on local leaderbords or Katana X players from all over the world on the global leaderboards Enjoy immersive, highly detailed 3D graphics and 3D positional audio in VR compatible with HTC Vive and Oculus TouchWarning: Please Play Safely! Decent workout as well. I could sit in my room chopping those wooden posts working on my "form" all day long. So much fun honing my ninja skills. Thanks for this game!. I get the feeling this is abandoned. Bummer, because it was one of my favorite games.. I've had my casual fun with Fruit Ninja and wanted something more realistic and stumbled on Katana X.I've never done tameshigiri practice in real life but this tatami challenge is fantastic! It forces you to concentrate on your form. In Fruit Ninja you can be quite sloppy but player in Katana X needs higher precision. The fruit challenge is much much harder than Fruit Ninja. I do wish there was one more challenge something like bamboo that was in between the fruit and tatami, maybe bamboo. One downside- sword behaves glitchy on the Vive esp. when you miss your target during tatami practice. When the sword is stuck-it can flicker like crazy.. New and improved Zen Blade. New arenas and new game modes. One of the best(probably best) slicing physics I've seen up until today. Still needs to be polished(especially sound wise) but it is damn good slicing minigame.. Ive spent way more time playing this than I thought, tatamis are strangly addictive and satisfying to cut. Definately the most realistic sword physics Ive experience in VR so far.. Highly recommended. As someone who has trained with a sword for years, and who has competed in (and very occasionally won) cutting tournaments, I like this game a lot. It's definitely not Fruit Ninja, where you can kind of flail around randomly and still kill fruit. Superior blade mechanics, and the tatami cutting mode set this game apart. In KatanaX , sure you can have fun and get a workout cutting flying fruit. But you can also get in some practice that can actually help your r/l swordsmanship.Likes:Cutting mechanics are about as realistic as you'll find in VR right now. You have to maintain extension and accurate blade angle to cut. Wrist flicking won't do the job.The graphics are nice. Environments are lovely and unobtrusive, the swords look good, Music and sound are effective, and non-distracting.Virtual tatami! Not nearly as messy and expensive as the real thing. Ditto for the fruit.Dislikes:Nothing, really.Things I'd like to see:A non-timed tatami cutting mode, so I can really check out my targeting and cut angles. Some way to incorporate blocking too -- maybe get points for blocking bombs that would hit your body? A way to preset cutting target sequences for Kata and tournament practice would be super fun.A few more environments would be nice too, but that's really far down my list. Almost as far as...More types of fruit! And different fruit types should make different sounds when you cut them!I'm running a Rift with two sensors on an I7-2600k w/a GTX 1080. Frame rate is constant, and tracking feels just fine. I did have to move my sensors higher on my wall (to about 7 feet) to get the Rift to track hands-above-head sword positions. I also built a sword handle for my touch controller out of 1 1/4" PVC pipe and a little bamboo. (The handle really helps, and I doubt it cost more than a buck or two to make. I'll post pictures and instructions in discussions if anybody's interested.). My favorite VR sword experience yet; just what I've been looking for and well worth the price. Very satisfying, fairly realistic, challenging, and can even make for a workout.Pros: realistic appearance and sword physics, room-scale play, immersive zen-like feel. Sword play without violence.Cons: playing with WMR your sword can get lost if you aren't looking at it or wind up too far (not the designer's fault, just an issue with WMR), depth can be hard to judge. Somewhat limited game-play options. Can be a little too hard to cut small fruit...but realistically so. Weilding the sword two handed like a real katana puts you at a disadvantage compared to one-handed weilders.Future features I'm hoping for: Training option for all modes; more experiences; brief instructional video in authentic stances and movement; more types of swords--types, lengths, historical periods, maybe even from other cultures (how cool would Chinese dual-wielded Dao be?).. Wow! I've only played for a short time, but I can already tell how addictive it is!Pros-- Forget the gym. Play this for an hour or two. You will sweat. Prepare for gross face foam. Haha!- Requires actual skill to play. No waving your hand around to aimlessly score.- Super addictive. I found myself telling my friends "Just one more round dude, I promise, and then I'm done. Seriously this time. Just... one... more... round. Dude? You still there? Sweet."- Simple, yet effective graphics. One of my favorite things is how there aren't a bunch of flashy colors and distracting animation. Just slice and dice!- Awesome hit detection. Requires you to actually swing to slice effectively.Cons -- Sweaty. Seriously. So sweaty now.- Sometimes your sword gets lost in the chaos. I think it's the game punishing you for being too crazy. Stay calm and parry on.Recommend. Absolutely.9/10
