The biggest issue I've seen with people and this game is what the meta of zombie games have gone too these days: Run'n'gun style zombie shooters similar to L4D and RE4 & RE5. I'm not bashing those titles at all (Hell I own them) but be aware that this Outbreak game is not like those. This game's story mode is an homage to the old-school RE games, where ammo counts, characters handle a big sluggish, inventory space is limited, supplies are dwindling, and the map is sprawling. If you go into this game with the same action-heavy, bullet-spitting frenzy of other zombie shooters, you will grow frustrated.They do offer a particular mode for that kind of play, called Onslaught, featuring waves of progressively more powerful enemies.In particular, this game's main story mode draws heavily on the Resident Evil Outbreak series for the PS2, which tragically came at a time when console connectivitiy just wasn't there in stride yet (and damn you Capcom for not rereleasing the RE:Outbreaks on PC or PSN but that's neither here nor there). The various characters you play as all have some kind of perk (and sometimes disadvantage). The cop starts with a mid-tier pistol and has extra defense; the student can carry 6 items instead of four (however she cannot mix healing items to increase potency); another character can bypass simple locks through her lockpick; another character does bonus damage with melee but less damage with guns; etc.You're given several different control styles to choose, from classic RE Tank in all its clunky glory to a hybrid like what RE:Outbreak did, to more mouse-look friendly styles so don't listen to people whining 'bout the controls. I spent about 20m juggling with them and found one I liked.Drawing again on the RE:Outbreak series, this game features multiplayer and if you are willing to log onto the Discord and chat with players you won't struggle for long to find buddies to play with. The game scales accordingly so you won't break the game into EZ-mode either.The graphics are simple (but made by 1 dev so cut him some slack) and the price is under $10. If you really can't get past his graphics, then settle on the other 2 games he's made, which feature a more robust graphics setting. If you grew up in the 90's like I did playing the RE series and other titles like Silent Hill, this game is for you. If you grew up on the more recent bevy of zombie games, you'd best hit up Youtube and see if this more cerebral game still appeals to you.. Here is what I like and what I don't like in a nutshell:LIKES:- Reminds me of old Resident Evil days.- The game has convincing atmosphere.- There is ONLINE co-op.- It feels like a completed game, too many games on steam are half-done as is.- There is real challenge, even on the easiest difficulty.DISLIKES:- The controls and movement speed are annoying (although I understand why they are, if we were fast and moving at pin-point turns the zombies would have to move faster too, this game isn't a fast-zombie experience. In all honesty, the scariest zombies are the ones who can catch you at a slow pace. So I kind of understand the choice to make movement a bit of a hindrance.)- Items that are dropped on top of each other become difficult to pick up after wards unless you move them out of the way of each other.- There doesn't seem to be a quick reload button??- Handguns knockback damage is too weak to make them formidable early weapons against zombies.- The user-interface is too complicate for quick use. There needs to be a quick slot system for items to be dropped and used.All in all in this is a very good game at $10 if you're buying this on sale. I'm sure with friends you could easily have hours of fun.. If you like tank controls and the vibes from older survival-horror games(RE mainly), you're probably gonna like this game.If you don't know what either of those are or feel like, you're probably not gonna like this game.15 bux(10.50 when writing this) isn't a bad price to see if you do like it though(+coop with friends if you actually do end enjoying it).. Its fun and challenging and its old school outbreak great job. one of the reasons i bought the game is because I am also interested in game development and wanted to see what a solo dev could accomplish. This game contains scenes of explicit violence and gore.I knew I was gonna enjoy from that moment on.Outbreak captures the feel of old school survival horror perfectly, Resident Evil 1 and 2 in particular with sound effects like they had and actual descriptions of scenes you come across written in similar style to how it was.Fans of the old stuff, just buy it.. I really did not like this game at all. You can find this game on the internet. Basically a 2D flash game that is very similar to Resident evil but 2D. The movement and game is really slow, zombies are fast so you can't have a good amount of space apart, guns don't shoot as soon as mouse is clicked, there is a delay. Normally I would get♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥and would demand a refund but I got this on sale for 1 dollar so you can keep my money. Btw, this game is NOT worth 10 dollars! Biggest scam ever. Keep it 3 or under. I was enjoying the nostalgic feeling of the old RE:Outbreak games I got from playing this, and would have been fully set to recommend, but then I came across a puzzle. I don't understand why some developers feel the need to put some ludicrous puzzle they dreamt up into their game, vene less so why they make solving it necessary to progress. You aren't clever, none of you are clever, and almost every single rediculous puzzle indie devs come up with are nonsensicle. Stop doing this, just make codes for doors writen down on a note somewhere, don't give me some whacked out instructions that you thought are a clever way to open the door. It doesn't even fit into the gameplay, if I'm expected to be quick about looking and moving forward as the never ending zombies bearing down on me make it impossible to take my time, then how can you put in a puzzle to make me stop and try to decipher it for 10 minutes.
